Today

I love the phrase 'Today is the first day of the rest of your life' so I decided to create a poster with some hand drawn type and textured layers.

The world through the eyes of a graphic designer.

My final project for my 1st year on the FDA was to create a 100 A5 page PDF about the alphabet in a conceptual way. The PDF had to include 26 spreads for the alphabet (one spread for each letter), two essays (one visual culture essay at the front and a personal professional development essay at the end) and the other pages had to consist of research.

The idea of this PDF is to make you think differently about what you see on a day to day basis and to ask you too question the meanings that we as a society have set for everything. I have given each letter of the alphabet a graphic design term and interpreted what I think a graphic designer would see and associate the letter with in everyday life.

Below are images of some of the spreads.

Front cover

A is for Achromatic
The non-colours: - black, white and gray.

G is for Grid
A typographic grid is a two-dimensional structure made up of a series of intersecting vertical and horizontal axes used to structure content for a book or other document.

L is for Lorem Ipsum
In publishing and graphic design, Lorem Ipsum is the name given to commonly used placeholder/dummy text to demonstrate the graphic elements of a page.

M is for Margin
A margin is the boarder around the outside of a page in which all the graphic elements sit inside.

S is for Saturation
When something is totally saturated it can’t fit anything else in it because it is so full. Saturated designs can be overwhelming and confusing.

Flyers

Here are some flyers I created for a club night in Brighton.

BRIXTON LOST

This is an A5 book I created about bust shops in Brixton. The collection of photos is meant to shock and force the reader to think about their environment and what effect the recession is having on all of us.

EXPOSURE

Here is a series of experiments I took with some long exposure photography.

I LOVE TYPE

Here are a series of photographs of 3D letters I made which spell ‘play’. My aim was to visually explore and communicate the meaning of the word using our everyday environments and to question the different ways in, which play is considered.

FDA RESEARCH BOOK

This is a A5 french fold book bolted together with a soft-back wrap around cover. As part of a university (1st year) project I had to take part in 12 workshops to do with graphic design and London. We were asked to create a book containing the work from each workshop. I printed on sketch book paper for effect.
